About the program

North Portland Soccer Club’s (NOPO) Winter Futsal Program is designed for 1st-8th grade players who love soccer and are ready for a year round experience. Futsal teams will compete in the Rose City Futsal’s Winter II Recreational League. Rose City Futsal is a community-focused indoor soccer and futsal organization with dedicated facilities in the Portland area

Why we offer futsal

At North Portland Soccer Club, our mission is rooted in making soccer accessible to every player in our community, not just on a seasonal basis, but we want to offer accessible soccer opportunities year round. The Winter Futsal program is our effort to create an accessible soccer experience in the cold winter months.

Program Details

Futsal is a faster and more challenging version of soccer, played in tighter spaces. Even in the recreational division, there can be a noticeable skill gap between new players and those with experience. For this reason, we recommend that participants have at least two years of soccer experience before joining. Some futsal experience is preferred. This helps ensure players can learn, stay engaged, and enjoy the game.

Program Calendar - Winter 2027

Practice locations and times will vary depending on coach availability and gym accessibility. In past years, most practices were scheduled for 4–5pm or 5–6pm. Exact practice information will be finalized in January.

Games will vary in time and may be on Saturday or Sunday, with the possibility of two games on some weekends. Home games will be at Rose City Futsal East and away games at Rose City Futsal West.

Important Dates:

  • First Practice - January 25th

  • First Game - January 30th

  • Last Practice - March 19th

  • Last Game - March 21st

Eight games are guaranteed in the season and one practice per week.

Program fees

The cost to participate in the Rose City Futsal league is $160 for the season.

Program fees include:

  • League registration fees

  • Court rentals

  • Referee Fees 

  • Team equipment

  • Secondary player medical insurance (in case of injury during official sanctioned events)

  • Overall program operations

Program fees do not include:

  • Annual Rose City Futsal membership

  • Uniforms (players will be responsible for purchasing required kit)

  • Personal gear such as futsal shoe and shin guards

Frequently Asked Questions

We're excited that you are thinking about joining us for a safe and fun Futsal season. Below you'll find a list of Frequently Asked Questions for our Futsal Program U7 (1st grade) - U14 (8th grade).

  1. What if my child has never played Futsal before?
    We recommend players have at least 2 years of soccer experience and some form of futsal experience.

  2. How much does it cost?
    $160 Registration fee.

  3. Is a Rose City Futsal membership included in the registration fee?

    No an RCF membership is not included in the registration fee. Memberships can be purchased at RCF for $20 before the start of the season or at the first game.

  4. Why is the Futsal program more expensive than the Fall and Spring Rec?

    Futsal is more costly to operate for several reasons. First, league fees and court rentals are nearly double the cost of our outdoor Fall and Spring programs. The season also runs longer, with a guaranteed eight games. On top of that, futsal teams are smaller, which means fewer players are sharing the overall expenses. All of these factors together create a higher financial impact compared to our outdoor programs.

  5. Does the club provide scholarships?
    Yes, scholarships are provided on an as-needed basis. Please contact our Program Director at omar@northportlandsoccer.com.

  6. When is it?
    The season will take place late January to late March.

  7. Where will my child practice?
    U7 (1st grade) - U14 (8th grade) will practice at a North Portland School or Community Center.

  8. How many games will there be?
    Eight games for the season.

  9. When will games occur?
    Games are scheduled by Rose City Futsal (RCF) and occur on Saturdays and Sundays from late January to late March. RCF schedules are typically released in mid January, and, when posted, can be found on the RCF website here.

  10. How long will games take?
    About an hour.

  11. Will there be practices?
    Yes, there is one practice a week for the Winter season.

  12. What is the game format?
    The number of field players, time, field size, and ball size varies by age group. See here for Rose City Futsal’s rules.

  13. How many players are on each team?
    There are 8-10 players on a team.

  14. Are players guaranteed playing time?

    Yes, one of our guiding principles is that all players get equal playing time and are guaranteed at least half a game.

  15. Are teams gender-specific?
    Typically, yes. Should you have further questions, please contact our Program Director omar@northportlandsoccer.com.

  16. Once I register online and receive my email confirmation, do I need to do anything else?
    No, nothing additional is needed. Your assigned parent/coach volunteers will get in-touch with you in the beginning of January.

  17. How do I know which team my child is on?
    Once you register and our club registrar assigns your child to a team, you'll receive a email from the team’s coach and from our Programs Director. You should receive an email in mid January.

  18. What if all spots for an age group are filled? Is there a wait list?
    Once the age group reaches capacity, the wait list is enabled and players can register for the wait list. The registration for the wait list is free, and players are added to the wait list for their age group in order of registration. If you want to know your kid's spot on the wait list, please email our Programs Director (omar@northportlandsoccer.com). Typically, only one spot opens up in any age group, and parents/guardian(s) may want to consider other options.

  19. What should my child wear?
    U7 (1st grade) - U14 (8th grade) players will need a NPSC uniform along with Futsal shoes, shin guards, and socks.

  20. Do I need to buy my child a NOPOSC uniform?
    Yes, players U7 (1st grade) - U14 (8th grade) are required to wear a NOPOSC uniform. More info about uniforms can be found here.

  21. Does the club provide uniform scholarships?
    Yes, via our partnership with the Tursi's Soccer Supply and the Timbers Army / 107ist we're pleased to offer uniform scholarships to our players. Visit our scholarship page for more information.

  22. What else should I have for my child?
    We recommend a backpack or soccer bag and water bottle.

  23. How can I help with my child's team?
    We're glad you asked! Each team will need a minimum of two parent/guardian volunteers to coach and coordinate the team. Some regular Fall and Spring season coaches will take the Winter off from coaching. Most teams will be needing a volunteer head coach for the Winter Futsal season!

  25. What about the weather?
    Rose City Futsal is a covered and heated/cooled facility. Games will be played rain or shine. Cancellations can occur due to snow storms, which in that case you will receive an email directly from Rose City Futsal and from our Programs Director.

  26. What is the refund policy?
    Full refunds are available two weeks before the first game. No refunds are available after that.

  27. Who is NOPOSC?
    North Portland Soccer Club (NOPOSC) is a 501(c)(3), non-profit, volunteer-run, recreational youth soccer organization, and a member club of Portland Youth Soccer Association (PYSA). Our IRS EIN is 45-5121179. Our club boundaries encompass the PPS neighborhood schools of Astor, Beach, Cesar Chavez, Chief Joseph, James John, Ockley Green, George, Peninsula, Rosa Parks, Sitton, and Woodlawn.
